Billionaire Slack Co-Founder’s Daughter Missing, Feared in Dangerous San Francisco Neighborhood

The 16-year-old daughter of billionaire Slack co-founder Stewart Butterfield has gone missing and is feared to be in one of San Francisco’s most notoriously dangerous neighborhoods. Mint Butterfield, 16, was last seen on Sunday night in Bolinas, California, according to Marin County Sheriff spokesperson Deputy Jose Suarez. Her mother, Caterina Fake, who is the founder of Flickr, reported her missing on Monday.

Mint and her mother had been living together at the time of her disappearance and were attending a private boarding school in the Napa area. The sheriff’s office described Mint as wearing a black sweatshirt, flannel pajama pants, and black boots, possibly carrying a gray suitcase.

However, there are concerns that Mint may have run away to the Tenderloin neighborhood in San Francisco, known for its high crime rates, homelessness, and open-air drug market. Mint has allegedly struggled with substance abuse in the past and has been known to frequent the area.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on Mint’s whereabouts to contact the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. The disappearance of Mint Butterfield, the only child of Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake, has raised alarm due to her potential vulnerability in a dangerous environment.

Stewart Butterfield co-founded the messaging app Slack in 2013 but left the company after it was acquired by Salesforce for $28 billion in 2021. His net worth is estimated to be around $1.6 billion. Caterina Fake, on the other hand, founded Flickr with Butterfield in 2004 and sold the company to Yahoo! in 2005.
