Atlanta Police Seek Public’s Aid in Identifying Suspects After Georgia State University Shooting

The Atlanta Police Department is requesting public assistance in identifying three individuals linked to a recent shooting incident downtown, which occurred near Georgia State University’s student housing on October 29. Surveillance footage provided by the police showcases the persons of interest involved in the event.

The shooting took place at 100 John Wesley Dobbs Ave., directly opposite Georgia State University’s student dormitories. Freshmen Astrid Adams and Kiley Carpenter, residents at Piedmont Central Student Housing, have expressed their distress, with Carpenter recounting being awakened by the sound of gunfire. The incident has heightened anxiety for the students, impinging on their sense of security on campus.

In a significant development on Thursday, Atlanta police disclosed that they had acquired surveillance videos showing three persons of interest in the aftermath of the shooting. One segment of the footage captures an individual in a purple hoodie disposing of his sweatshirt and an AR-15-style rifle before exiting the scene. Additional clips reveal two individuals dressed in black who, according to the police, exchanged gunfire with the man in the purple hoodie.

The confrontation resulted in four bystanders being shot, two of whom are students at Georgia State University. “We have four individuals shot that had nothing to do with this incident,” stated Lt. Germain Dearlove, the homicide commander for the Atlanta Police Department.

The altercation escalated when the man in the purple hoodie reportedly retrieved a firearm from his car after an argument and fired at the other men. Lt. Dearlove emphasized the necessity of identifying and apprehending these individuals to prevent further reckless endangerment in populated areas.

While Carpenter acknowledges the progress made by the police in pursuing the suspects, she insists that further measures are required to ensure student safety.

Despite the ongoing concerns, police report that three of the four wounded victims, including the two GSU students, are on the mend, while one remains in critical condition at the hospital.

They are offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspects, with assurances that tipsters can remain unidentified.
