7 Injured in Shooting at Prairie View A&M University Homecoming Party Near Houston

A shooting incident at a homecoming party for Prairie View A&M University has resulted in seven wounded individuals, as reported by the Waller County Sheriff’s Office. The event occurred late Sunday evening, approximately 50 miles from downtown Houston.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. during what has been described as a “trail ride pasture party” attended by over a thousand partygoers. Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement found five individuals—a minor and four adults—had incurred gunshot injuries to their lower bodies. According to official statements, these wounds were not deemed life-threatening.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident, which ensued following a dispute that led to gunfire. The exact number of shooters remains undetermined, but it is believed that those injured were not the intended targets.

Authorities reported that the party had received official approval from the county’s chief administrator; however, the security measures agreed upon were not in place at the time of the incident.

Coverage from local television depicted emergency services, including ambulances and a helicopter, responding to the crisis. By Monday morning, the site had been abandoned, with only refuse and a few vehicles left behind.
