Murder is something most of us don’t enjoy thinking about, yet it’s an act of violence that occurs every day the world over. Violent crimes, whether they’re in the heat of passion or premeditated, have a life-long impact on the families of the victims.
Today, we wanted to look at few of the most commonly used murder weapons in the United States.
1. Firearms
This one we all know and hear about every day. Gun violence tops the list of murder weapons year in and year out, with the majority of gun violence occurring in the streets of major metropolitan areas of the United States. Also, we often hear of firearms usage in the course of robberies and other initial crimes being committed where a gun is used to invoke fear. Firearms account for about 70% of all violent crimes occurring in the United States. Can you think of any other areas where a gun might be used?
2. Knives / Sharp Objects
Knives are easily hidden from a victim’s view by assailants, which might be why they account for about 13% of violent crimes in the United States. Objects other than knives that fall under this category would be things like scissors, ice picks, or broken bottles.
3. Blunt Objects
This category and weapon type can really be almost any other type of object as long as it’s not pointed in design. Murders using blunt objects as the weapon account for roughly 5% of murders in the United States. The most common type of blunt object murders occurring during the committing of robberies. During this act of violence, the commonly used objects tend to be baseball bats, bricks, or bottles. Statues, trophies and other types of blunt objects can have the same tragic and intended effect on the victims.
