Tragedy struck a kid’s birthday party in Monroe, Michigan, over the weekend when an alleged drunk driver plowed through the gathering, resulting in the deaths of two young siblings. Diane Harrington, a family member, shared the image on a GoFundMe page created to raise funds for the siblings’ proper funeral and burial service. The campaign has already garnered over $100,000 in donations since its launch earlier on Sunday. Any remaining funds will be allocated towards housing and medical expenses, as stated by the family.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Saturday when a 66-year-old woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, drove her SUV into the boat club where children and their parents had gathered to celebrate the birthday. Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough described the scene as “extremely chaotic,” with first responders facing a distressing situation. Three children and six adults were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals via helicopter or ambulance, resulting in a total of 15 injuries.
The driver was taken into custody and has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death. Additional charges may follow, according to reports from WTVG.
Lana and Zayn were students at Bobcean Elementary School, while Jayden attended Simpson Middle School at Flat Rock Community Schools.
