On Wednesday afternoon, a shooting occurred in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old mother. Three other individuals, including a 2-year-old boy, were also injured in the incident that took place on the 1200 block of West 81st Street.
Chicago Police Chief of Patrol, Brian McDermott, reported that while the family was standing on the sidewalk, assailants from a black vehicle opened fire. The young mother sustained multiple gunshot injuries, leading to her death. The child, his father, and a 62-year-old man also received injuries, but are currently in stable condition and expected to recover.
Law enforcement is in the process of determining the motive behind the shooting and identifying the perpetrators. Detectives are reviewing any potential surveillance footage from the area to aid in their investigation.
This event underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in the city, which has seen several similar incidents in recent months. Authorities urge community members to provide any information that might assist in the ongoing investigation.
