A shocking incident unfolded in Milwaukee on Monday night as a wrong-way driver, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, came dangerously close to colliding with Vice President Kamala Harris’ motorcade. Startling video footage captured the 55-year-old local man driving up an exit ramp onto the wrong side of I-794 at St. Paul Avenue, swiftly passing the Democratic nominee and her convoy of vehicles. The incident lasted mere seconds, leaving those present in disbelief.
According to WISN 12, the driver maneuvered into the left lane as the first car in the motorcade passed, followed by a procession of over a dozen vehicles, including one transporting Vice President Harris to the airport. The final car in the motorcade, driven by a Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy, promptly pulled over the wrong-way driver and proceeded to arrest him after he failed multiple field sobriety tests.
Footage obtained by the local ABC affiliate station revealed that the driver appeared just as bewildered as those who witnessed his headlights on the one-way section of the interstate. The arrest report, obtained by the news station, stated that when informed by the deputy that he had “almost struck a vehicle in the VPOTUS’ motorcade,” the driver expressed extreme surprise and claimed to have no recollection of entering the freeway or coming close to hitting another vehicle. Additionally, an open beer can was found in the driver’s car, as noted in the report.
The driver now faces charges of drunk driving and second-degree recklessly endangering safety. He has been held in jail without bail, as reported by the station. The Secret Service acknowledged the incident and expressed gratitude to the sheriff’s office for apprehending the driver.
