Woman Shoots Apartment Complex Manager in Northridge, Prompts SWAT Response

A woman identified as Anita Young shot the manager of her Northridge apartment complex on Friday morning, leading to a tense standoff as she barricaded herself inside the building. The incident unfolded at approximately 11:25 a.m. in the parking lot of the apartment complex located in the 17000 block of Plummer Street. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was seated in a Green Hyundai when Young fired a shot, striking her in the neck. The injured victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Anita Young, a 74-year-old resident of the complex, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting. As the situation escalated, the Los Angeles Police Department dispatched a SWAT team to the scene to handle the barricaded suspect. The apartment building remained under lockdown, causing three nearby schools, namely Oliver Wendell Holmes International Middle School, Dearborn Elementary Charter Academy, and Highland Hall Waldorf School, to implement safety measures.

Court documents reveal that Young has a history of violence within the apartment complex. Her neighbor and landlord, Sean Robert Lackey, had previously filed a petition for a restraining order against her in 2022. Lackey alleged that Young frequently exhibited verbal abuse and occasional physical violence. In one instance, he claimed that Young attacked another elderly neighbor with a glass bottle, attempting to strike him in the head. Lackey expressed fear for his safety, citing an incident where Young had spit on him. However, the restraining order application was denied by a judge.

The Los Angeles Times reached out to Sean Robert Lackey for comment, but he declined to provide a statement.
