Woman Groped on Trail near Half Moon Bay’s Smith Field Park Prompts Increased Patrols

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has announced plans to enhance patrols in the vicinity of Half Moon Bay’s Smith Field Park following an incident where a woman was groped while walking on a nearby trail. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a call at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, near a trail located just south of the park. The victim, who was walking east along the trail, was approached by a man riding a bicycle. The assailant swiftly dismounted his bike, grabbed the woman, and promptly fled the scene after she screamed.

In response to this alarming incident, the sheriff’s office is urging residents to exercise heightened awareness of their surroundings and, whenever possible, consider walking, hiking, or cycling with companions.
