Woman Arrested for Harboring Fugitive, Drugs and Firearms Found in Scotland Neck Residence

A woman was arrested in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, after she was found harboring a wanted man in her home. The incident unfolded on Friday morning when deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence on Brooks Road to serve an active warrant for Demetrius Shields, a 30-year-old resident of Scotland Neck.

Authorities had been searching for Shields in connection with a serious crime – discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. As deputies approached the house, they attempted to make contact with anyone inside but were met with silence for nearly half an hour.

Finally, Shields emerged from the residence and was promptly taken into custody without incident. However, during the arrest, deputies discovered that a woman, identified as 29-year-old Malinda Draughn, was inside the house and appeared to be in control of the premises.

With this new information at hand, law enforcement swiftly obtained a search warrant for the property. What they uncovered inside was nothing short of alarming. The search yielded a cache of firearms, including three handguns and a shotgun, along with a substantial amount of ammunition.

But the discoveries did not end there. Deputies also stumbled upon illicit substances, with cocaine and marijuana found in various locations throughout the residence. Additionally, drug paraphernalia was seized, further solidifying the suspicion of illegal activities taking place within those walls.

As a result of these findings, Draughn was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including harboring a fugitive, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana up to a half ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. She is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.

Meanwhile, Shields, the wanted man, was arrested on the outstanding warrant for discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. His bond has been set at $50,000, reflecting the seriousness of the alleged crime.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the initial incident that led to the warrant for Shields’ arrest. However, the discovery of firearms, drugs, and a fugitive within the same residence raises questions about potential connections to other criminal activities.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into this perplexing case, aiming to uncover any additional information that may shed light on the motives and activities of those involved. As the legal proceedings unfold, the community of Scotland Neck remains on edge, grappling with the unsettling realization that such illicit activities were taking place in their midst.
