Woman Arrested for Falsely Reporting Crime to Avoid First Date

A woman from North Liberty, Iowa, identified as Sumaya Thomas, has been arrested and charged with two counts of False Report of Indictable Offense to Public Entity, as well as one count of False Report on a 911 call. Thomas, 18, allegedly fabricated a story in order to avoid going on a first date with a man she had matched with on a dating app.

On June 16, when the man arrived at Thomas’ doorstep for their scheduled romantic evening, she suddenly had a change of heart and decided to call the police. She falsely claimed that the man was an abusive ex who posed a physical threat to her. Thomas went as far as stating that she was pregnant with his child and that he intended to harm her through physical violence.

Law enforcement officers promptly responded to the call and interviewed both parties involved. The man provided evidence of their recent interaction on the dating app, which contradicted Thomas’ claim that they had known each other for two years. Additionally, Thomas had deleted messages from her phone, further raising suspicions about her credibility.

Eventually, Thomas admitted to fabricating the entire incident due to her sudden change of heart about meeting the man. She confessed that she didn’t believe the officers would assist her, so she resorted to making false reports.

The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was detained for over an hour as a result of Thomas’ false accusations. Thomas now faces legal consequences for her actions.

  1. It is disheartening to hear about incidents like these where false reports are made to public entities and emergency services. It not only wastes valuable resources but also undermines the trust we have in these systems.

In light of this, my personal goal is to promote awareness and education about the consequences of making false reports. I believe that by spreading information about the impact of such actions, we can discourage individuals from engaging in this behavior.

Additionally, I plan to support organizations and initiatives that work towards improving the efficiency
