A University of Wisconsin-Madison student is in critical condition after being discovered severely beaten in downtown Madison early Sunday morning. The Madison Police Department (MPD) responded to a call around 3:00 a.m. reporting a woman found with severe injuries near West Wilson and Bedford streets. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. MPD officials believe the attack was carried out by a stranger, and no arrests have been made at this time.
MPD Chief Shon Barnes has confirmed that multiple agencies and departments are collaborating to investigate the incident. In response to the incident, police patrols have been increased in the area, and residents have been advised against walking alone at night. MPD detectives are urging anyone residing within a four-block radius of the incident location and possessing home security camera footage to provide it for further analysis.
