Utah Man Charged with Felonies for Alleged Participation in Dark Fantasy Chats About Raping and Murdering Young Boys

Jonathan Lowell Nelson, a 47-year-old man from Cottonwood Heights, Utah, has been charged with several felonies after allegedly engaging in “dark fantasy chats” about raping and murdering young boys in an online chatroom. Nelson faces one count of first-degree felony aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and four counts of second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to court documents, Nelson was conversing with a 22-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, in an online chat. During their conversations, Nelson allegedly began discussing the rape and murder of young boys. Concerned about the nature of the discussions, the New Yorker reported Nelson to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Subsequently, an undercover FBI agent assumed the identity of the 22-year-old and continued the conversation with Nelson.

During their exchanges, Nelson allegedly sent explicit photos and videos of underage boys to the undercover agent. Court documents state that Nelson mentioned keeping items such as hats, clothing articles, backpacks, and scooters from his victims. Following his arrest, Nelson reportedly admitted to engaging in “dark fantasy chats,” including one in which he sought the assistance of a relative to lure an underage boy for rape and murder. Another chat involved the fantasy of raping and murdering 293 young foster boys in Park City.

State prosecutors have deemed Nelson a danger to the victim and the community and have requested that he be held without bail.
