UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis was arrested on Wednesday, October 25th, after allegedly driving at a speed of 136 mph in a 50 mph zone. The arrest took place on FM 2100, located on the outskirts of Houston, Texas. Lewis was driving a red Lamborghini at the time of the incident.
According to local Houston affiliate ABC 13, an officer observed Lewis weaving dangerously through traffic before clocking him at the high speed. Arrest records indicate that Lewis was released on his own recognizance after posting a $100 bond on the same day. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 27th.
This arrest comes just days before Lewis is set to compete in a five-round main event against Jailton Almeida at a UFC Fight Night card in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Lewis recently signed an 8-fight contract with the UFC.
Lewis, known for his love of fast cars, has previously showcased his twin turbo Lamborghini Huracan, reaching speeds of up to 140 mph on a closed race track. In 2021, Lewis also encountered an attempted car theft, where he confronted and subdued the suspect until the police arrived.
The upcoming fight between Lewis and Almeida is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 4th, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
