Tyler Goodson, the main subject of the popular podcast “S-Town,” was shot and killed by Woodstock police during a standoff on Sunday. The incident occurred near the 500 block of the Georgia Loop when police responded to a call for service and encountered Goodson barricaded inside his residence. A standoff ensued between Goodson and the officers, during which the police observed Goodson with a gun. Goodson was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), which is currently investigating the incident.
Woodstock Mayor Jeff Dodson expressed devastation over the incident, stating that Goodson was well-known and loved by himself, his family, and the community. Dodson emphasized that Goodson was more than just a character to the fans of the podcast and highlighted his roles as a father, son, brother, and friend.
The “S-Town” podcast, set primarily in Woodstock and Green Pond in Bibb County, gained significant popularity, amassing 16 million downloads in its first week and 40 million in its first month. The podcast, which won a 2017 Peabody Award, revolves around a man who sought an investigation into an alleged murder in a town he openly disliked.
