Two Women Arrested for Allegedly Using Counterfeit Money at Cedar City Truck Stop

Two women, Roberta Eng, 59, and Jasmine Ramirez, 31, were arrested by Cedar City Police in Utah after allegedly using counterfeit $100 bills at a local truck stop. The incident occurred on August 30, when the women reportedly used the counterfeit bills and left the scene before the police arrived. However, the truck stop cashier recognized the fake money and alerted the authorities.

Utah Highway Patrol officers later stopped Eng and Ramirez’s vehicle on Interstate 15. Following their arrest, Eng was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility on 10 felony counts of possession of forged writing. Ramirez, on the other hand, was booked on 10 felony counts of possession of forged writing, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.

During the investigation, the women were also linked to other fraud-related crimes in Cedar City, as stated by Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow. However, no further details were provided regarding these additional allegations.

It is worth noting that the truck stop cashier was able to identify the counterfeit bills due to their familiarity with a similar incident that occurred earlier in the month. To help people detect counterfeit money, Cornell University suggests various tips, including feeling the texture of the bill, comparing it with another bill of the same denomination and series, examining the printing quality, looking for colored fibers in the paper, and checking the serial numbers and security features.
