Two individuals were shot during a carjacking incident in Monroe, MI on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred after two men robbed a convenience store at approximately 3:30 PM. Following the robbery, they proceeded to carjack a pickup truck, shooting the two occupants inside the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Later in the evening, the Ohio State Highway Patrol shut down State Route 15 near Finley in both directions due to a large law enforcement presence. The pursuit of the suspects resulted in an officer-involved shooting and a standoff in Hancock County. The suspects fired multiple shots at officers, and troopers returned fire.
The pursuit came to an end when the suspects’ vehicle veered off the side of the road and landed in a ditch near Township Road 240. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Steven Jones, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The passenger, 44-year-old Ronnie Oliver, was taken into custody and is currently held at the Hancock County Jail.
No officers were injured during the incident. The motive behind the carjacking and subsequent shootings remains unknown at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
