Two men were fatally shot and another is fighting for his life following a series of shootings near a migrant shelter in Brooklyn on Sunday night. The incidents occurred just minutes apart, raising concerns about the safety of the area.
The first shooting took place at approximately 10:44 p.m. in a park near Flushing Avenue and Steuben Street, outside the Brooklyn Navy Yard. A man in his 30s was shot in the chest and arm and was immediately rushed to Methodist Hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
Only seven minutes later, two men were shot outside the migrant shelter located at 29 Ryerson Street, less than a quarter of a mile away from the initial incident. A 47-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The second victim, believed to be in his 30s, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and is currently in critical condition.
Law enforcement sources have indicated that the shootings appear to be connected, with all the victims being migrants. Preliminary information suggests that detectives are investigating the possible involvement of moped-riding members of the Venezuelan gang, El Tren de Aragua. However, no arrests have been made as of early Monday.
The migrant shelter on Ryerson Street was established by the city in April and was designed to accommodate up to 765 single adult migrants. The tragic events have raised concerns about the safety and security of the shelter and its surroundings.
Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the incidents and working to apprehend those responsible. As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial to ensure the safety of the migrant community and address any potential security vulnerabilities in the area.
Authorities urge anyone with information related to the shootings to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. The community’s cooperation is vital in bringing those responsible to justice and preventing further acts of violence.

The shootings near the migrant shelter in Brooklyn can be likened to a storm that wreaks havoc on a peaceful neighborhood. Just as a storm brings chaos, destruction, and uncertainty, these shootings have caused tragedy, loss of life, and left one person fighting for survival. The calm and safety that once existed in the neighborhood has been shattered, leaving the community in shock and fear, much like the aftermath of a destructive storm.
I am deeply saddened to hear about the tragic incident near the migrant shelter in Brooklyn. In times like these, it is important to come together as a community and support one another. While my recommendation may not directly address the incident, I would like to suggest considering the use of personal safety apps or devices for added protection.
