Two 12-Year-Olds Charged in Connection with Church Fire and Theft in East Bridgewater

Two 12-year-olds, a boy and a girl, are facing multiple charges in connection with a church fire and theft in East Bridgewater. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at St. John the Evangelist located at 210 Central Street. Upon arrival, East Bridgewater police and firefighters discovered that a fire had been set near the church’s altar, resulting in damage to the altar cloth and a Bible. Additionally, food items were reported missing from the church’s pantry.

Following an initial investigation, a witness and video footage led East Bridgewater police to charge the two 12-year-olds on Tuesday. Both children are now facing charges of burning a building, larceny from a building, destruction of property over $1,200, and breaking and entering a building in the daytime, which is considered a felony. The 12-year-olds will be arraigned in Brockton District Juvenile Court.
