Michael Dunahee was having fun on the playground at Blanshard Elementary School in Victoria, British Columbia, when he disappeared on March 24, 1991. Dunahee, 4, had accompanied his mother, Crystal Dunahee, to the school so she could take part in her flag football team’s practice. They had gotten to the school at 12:30 p.m. and Michael went to the playground where he was told to wait for his father to come get him. When his father arrived, he could not find Michael and the family immediately called the police.
At the time, the search for Michael was the largest missing person’s investigation in Canadian history. The police classified the case as an abduction. One witness said they saw a man in a brown van near the playground that day, but that was one of the few leads the police received.
Michael is still missing.
