Lynette Dawson spoke to her mother on Jan. 8, 1982. Dawson, a 33-year-old mother of two, made arrangements to meet her family at the Northbridge Baths the following day, but she never showed. Her husband, Chris Dawson, did not report her missing until Feb. 18. He claimed she left on her own after they’d had an argument about her spending. He also said she may have joined a religious organization.

Just a day after Lynette disappeared, Chris’ student, Joanne Curtis, moved into the Dawson family home. Chris, a high school physical education teacher, had been having an affair with Curtis, who lived with the family in October 1981. Chris divorced Lynette in 1983 and married Curtis the following year.

No one has heard from Lynette since the phone conversation with her mother. Chris was arrested and charged with Lynette’s murder in 2018. He pleaded not guilty in 2019 and was committed to stand trial in February 2020. Chris went on trial in May 2022. On Aug. 30, 2022, he was convicted of murdering Lynette. He was sentenced to 24 years in jail on December 1, 2022.
