Kristine Williams disappeared from Gary, IN, sometime in February 2014. Williams, a 36-year-old mother of four, was known to be working as an escort at the time she vanished. No one knew what became of her for 10 months. Finally, on Oct. 19, 2014, Darren Vann led police to an abandoned house on Massachusetts Street where they found Williams’ body. She had been strangled to death.
Vann was in police custody at the time; he was suspected of killing two other women. He reportedly killed Williams over $40 of crack cocaine. He sold drugs to her and believed she was avoiding him. He had sex with her and then strangled her to death. Vann confessed to those murders and to killing five more women, then led police to their bodies in various abandoned houses around Gary. In 2016, Vann was charged with killing five more women, including Williams. On May 4, 2018, he pleaded guilty to seven murders. He was sentenced to seven concurrent life sentences without the possibility of parole.
