On May 28, 1980, the night before she was to enter the U.S. Army, Faith Hathaway, 18, was kidnapped after being picked up while walking home from her going-away party at a local discotheque in Mandeville, La.

Hathaway’s body was later found at Fricke’s Cave just south of Franklinton, along Highway 25. She had been raped and was fatally stabbed 17 times.

Robert Lee Willie and Joseph Vaccaro were convicted of Hathaway’s murder. Eight days after killing Hathaway they committed another crime where both of the victims survived. Willie was sentenced to death and was executed in 1984. Vaccaro is serving a life sentence.
