David Smith left his parent’s home in New Jersey on Aug. 6, 2017, bound for Maryland to visit a friend. It was the last time he was seen or heard from.
Smith’s parents were able to ascertain he had made it to Maryland and spent time with two unidentified women. One of the women had taken him to some land her family owned and left him there on Aug. 8 because he said he wanted to camp. It was the last time anyone reported seeing him. Smith’s parents visited the property, located in Lisbon, MD, on Aug. 12, and after finding no sign of him, called the police.
A search was launched for the 28-year-old Smith but police were unsuccessful in tracking him down. Smith’s body was eventually found by hikers in Green Ridge State Forest on Feb. 25, 2018. The cause of death was unknown.
