Transient Charged with Sex Crimes in Attempted Kidnapping at Walnut Creek Library

A 27-year-old transient has been charged with sex crimes following an attempted kidnapping at the downtown library in Walnut Creek, California. The incident occurred on April 11, and the suspect was apprehended by the Walnut Creek Police on April 16, according to a statement released by the authorities.

The suspect, identified as Simon, allegedly attempted to kidnap a seven-year-old child with the intention of causing harm. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has charged him with two counts of a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14, as well as one count of attempted kidnapping for child molestation, as per court records. Simon is currently being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on $2 million bail.

The incident took place at the library located in the 1600 block of North Broadway. Simon allegedly took the child into a bathroom stall, which led to the attempted kidnapping charge. The child bravely came forward to the police, enabling them to track down the suspect.

Walnut Creek Police have stated that Simon was a transient known to them. While they do not suspect any additional victims, they encourage anyone who may have been victimized by Simon to come forward and contact them or utilize the anonymous tip line.
