Tragic Shooting and Fire Claims Lives of East Lansdowne Family

A devastating incident unfolded in East Lansdowne, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, as a shooting and subsequent house fire claimed the lives of a family. Xuong Le, his wife Britni McLaughlin-Le, and their three children, NaTalya, NaKayla, and Xavier, are presumed dead after their remains were recovered from the ashes of their home on Lewis Avenue. The community came together to honor the Le family with a vigil held at Yeadon Community Park, where pink and blue balloons were released into the sky.

During the vigil, Britni McLaughlin-Le’s father, John McLaughlin, spoke about his daughter’s life and the love she shared with her husband of 17 years. The tragedy has left their loved ones shattered, as they struggle to comprehend the loss of a family that lived a full and wonderful life.

Authorities believe that Canh Le, Xuong Le’s brother, was the shooter responsible for this horrific incident. It is suspected that Canh Le shot and killed his family members before setting the house ablaze. Two police officers, John Meehan and David Schiazza, were injured during the confrontation but have since been treated and released from the hospital.

Canh Le’s mother, Chin Le, revealed that an argument between Canh and his 13-year-old niece preceded the tragic events. She heard Canh mention retrieving a gun, prompting her husband to take her out of the house just before the shots were fired. Chin Le’s husband made the 911 call, and when police arrived, they were met with gunfire. The chaotic scene escalated further when the house quickly became engulfed in flames, forcing first responders to maintain a safe distance.

As the investigation continues, medical examiners are working to determine the causes of death for the victims. Friends of NaKayla, the 13-year-old victim, expressed their grief and shared memories of her vibrant personality and talent as a dancer at Cathie Collins Dance Studio.

The East Lansdowne community is in mourning, with the tragedy leaving a profound impact on its residents. The owner of Cathie Collins School of Dance announced that one of the competition dances would be dedicated to NaKayla throughout the season, ensuring her memory lives on.

This heartbreaking incident unfolded on Wednesday when a 911 call reported a child being shot. Shots were fired, and a fire erupted in the home shortly after. The brave actions of the responding officers from various departments, including Upper Darby police, resulted in the rescue of the injured officers amidst a volatile and dangerous situation.
