In a shocking incident that has left a California community reeling, a former Meta engineer, Anand Sujith Henry, allegedly killed his wife, Alice Benzinger, and their two 4-year-old twins before taking his own life. The bodies were discovered inside their $2.1 million home in San Mateo on Monday morning, prompting a police investigation into what appears to be a murder-suicide.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, Henry is believed to have fatally shot his wife in a bathtub before turning the gun on himself. The two young children were found dead in one of the bedrooms, with the exact cause of their deaths yet to be determined. It is suspected that they may have been smothered, strangled, or given a lethal overdose, as no signs of trauma were observed on their bodies.
San Mateo Police, who responded to a welfare check at the residence, have stated that there is no danger to the public, as they are confident the person responsible was located within the home. No evidence of forced entry was found, suggesting that this was an isolated incident.
The motive behind this tragic event remains unclear, and investigators are diligently working to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and speak with family members to determine a possible motive. Although police have been called to the house on previous occasions, they have not disclosed the nature of those calls.
Court records indicate that Henry had filed for divorce from Benzinger in December 2016, but it appears that the divorce was never finalized. The couple moved into their San Mateo home in 2020, where they appeared to be a friendly and happy family, according to neighbors.
While some neighbors reported hearing gunshots before the police arrived, the exact sequence of events leading up to the tragedy is still under investigation.
