In a grim sequence of events, St. George Police have confirmed that a man struck and killed by a vehicle on Friday, November 3, was the brother of a woman who died in a similar incident just two days earlier at the same location.
The latest accident occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. at 500 North Bluff Street when the man, crossing the street in a marked crosswalk with a walk signal, was hit by a pickup truck. Authorities pronounced him deceased at the scene due to the injuries sustained.
Initial reports from witnesses indicate that the pickup truck driver did not stop for the red light at the intersection, leading to the collision with the pedestrian.
This tragedy follows another that took place on Wednesday, November 1, where a woman was fatally injured by a vehicle at the same intersection around 8:00 p.m. St. George Police have since identified the male victim of the Friday accident as the brother of the female victim from the earlier incident.
The driver involved in Friday’s crash, Brianna Waters, has been arrested and is facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide due to negligence, driving under the influence with a prior conviction, and possession of controlled substances, among others. She is currently detained at the Purgatory Correctional Facility.
Contrastingly, authorities have noted that the Wednesday incident does not appear to involve impaired driving, and no charges have been filed against the driver in that case.
Both incidents are actively under investigation as the St. George Police extend their condolences to the family members mourning the consecutive losses.
