Tragedy at Thai Wedding: Groom Shoots Bride and 3 Others, Then Self

In an incident in Thailand, Chaturong Suksuk, a 29-year-old former soldier and para-athlete, fatally shot four individuals, including his bride, at their wedding before committing suicide. The victims were his wife, Kanchana Pachunthuek, 44, her mother, younger sister, and a wedding guest, with another guest sustaining serious injuries. The tragedy occurred hours after the couple’s marriage ceremony.

According to local media reports, Suksuk abruptly departed from the wedding party on Saturday evening and returned with a firearm. Guests noted that he appeared unhappy during the celebration. Police informed the BBC that Suksuk, who was significantly intoxicated, acted with unclear motives. He had legally acquired the gun and ammunition last year.

Speculations arise about Suksuk’s insecurity concerning the 15-year age difference between him and Pachunthuek, but authorities have yet to confirm this as a motive. The Bangkok Post reported that eleven bullets were discovered at the scene in Wang Nam Khieo district.

Suksuk’s background includes military service and notable achievements in para-athletics. He became disabled following a train accident that led to the amputation of one of his legs. Suksuk recently won a silver medal in swimming at the Asean Para Games in Indonesia and was scheduled to compete in the upcoming World Abilitysport Games in Thailand.
