Tory Lanez Sentencing Expected in Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case

Rapper Tory Lanez is set to face sentencing on Tuesday for the three-year-old incident in which he shot Megan Thee Stallion in the feet, leaving her emotionally scarred. Megan, who provided a statement read by Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta during the lengthy session on Monday, expressed that she has not found peace since the traumatic incident. Although she chose not to be present at the courtroom due to her discomfort around Lanez, she emphasized that her absence should not be interpreted as indifference and urged Judge David Herriford to hand down a severe sentence.

Originally scheduled as a shorter hearing, Lanez’s sentencing turned into a two-day affair as both sides debated the various factors that could influence the verdict. Witnesses, including Lanez’s father and the mother of his child, testified about his charitable work, troubled childhood, and parenting skills. Prosecutors are pushing for a 13-year sentence for Lanez, who was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and reckless discharge of a firearm.

The defense team, in a sentencing memo, argued for probation and Lanez’s release for enrollment in a residential substance abuse program. They further mentioned their intention to appeal his conviction, prolonging the resolution of this case.

Answering a few lingering questions, Lanez is unlikely to learn his fate until Tuesday afternoon as further discussions and decisions are expected to take place.

During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez had shot at the back of her feet and demanded she dance as she tried to walk away from the SUV they were traveling in during the summer of 2020. The incident occurred after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence in Hollywood Hills.
