Edward Lynch, a 52-year-old man from Toms River, has been charged with possession of child pornography. The arrest was made on Thursday by authorities from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation began after a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which had been notified about an individual downloading child pornography images from the internet.
Based on the information provided by the NCMEC, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office identified an IP address associated with a residence in Toms River as the source of the downloads. On August 24th, detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant at the address and seized multiple electronic devices. A subsequent forensic examination of these devices revealed over 1000 images of child pornography.
Further investigation led to the identification of Edward Lynch as the individual responsible for downloading the illegal material. Lynch was taken into custody at his home and is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer commended the Toms River Township Police Department and the NCMEC for their assistance in this case.
