Three suspects have been apprehended and taken into custody by the San Mateo Police Department in connection with a robbery that occurred in December. The arrest, which took place on Friday, also led to the seizure of an illegal pistol and a significant quantity of dangerous illegal fireworks.
The incident in question unfolded on December 22, when a 9-1-1 call alerted the San Mateo PD to a fight near San Mateo High School at approximately 5:55 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, officers interviewed a victim who had been assaulted by three individuals. The victim reported being punched by one of the suspects, who was wielding brass knuckles, and having his jewelry stolen. Sustaining multiple injuries, the victim required hospitalization.
The subsequent investigation was undertaken by the San Mateo PD Crime Reduction Unit (CRU). Over the course of several months, the CRU successfully identified the three suspects involved in the robbery and obtained search and arrest warrants for each of them. The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Josh Ferri and two male juveniles aged 16 and 17.
On Friday, with the assistance of the Foster City Police Department, the San Mateo PD executed the arrest warrants. Ferri and the 17-year-old were apprehended in San Mateo, while the 16-year-old was located and arrested at San Francisco International Airport. Ferri was subsequently booked into San Mateo County Jail, while the two juveniles were booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Facility.
During the search of the suspects’ residences, law enforcement officers discovered an unregistered, illegal pistol, illegal drugs, evidence of drug sales, and a staggering 1,400 pounds of dangerous illegal fireworks.
