Three Atlanta police officers were hospitalized with gunshot wounds following a confrontation that resulted in the death of a suspect on Saturday evening. The incident occurred in a commercial area on Fairbanks Street, where officers responded to reports of an armed man. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum provided details during a news conference, stating that upon encountering the suspect on Desoto Avenue, the individual was armed with both a handgun and a knife.

Chief Schierbaum explained that a struggle ensued, leading to gunfire that injured three officers and resulted in the suspect’s death. The injured officers were swiftly transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in police patrol vehicles. One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder, another to the leg, and the third suffered a grazing wound. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will lead the probe into the shooting, taking charge of the investigation. Mayor Dickens expressed his concern about the impact of firearms on communities, emphasizing the need for action to address the harm caused by guns.
