The incident unfolded shortly before 11:30 p.m. when troopers responded to a residence on Nobles Pond Crossing in Dover following a report of two suspicious males dressed in all black attempting to break into vehicles in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, troopers discovered a Kia Sorento parked in a driveway along Winding Carriage Lane with a shattered window. As the trooper approached the suspects, they fled down Peacock Place. A foot chase ensued, with the suspects refusing to comply with orders to stop. Eventually, the 13-year-old suspect yielded and was taken into custody without incident. Shortly after, the 14-year-old suspect was apprehended on Station View Drive, also without incident.

Authorities discovered that both teenagers were in possession of a screwdriver and USB cable at the time of their arrest. Consequently, they were charged with multiple offenses, including felony attempt to commit theft of a motor vehicle, felony possession of burglar tools, felony conspiracy second-degree, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and tampering with a vehicle.
