A 17-year-old boy became the victim of a stabbing during a chaotic brawl that erupted in Times Square on Thursday night. The incident involved a large group of individuals, including migrants, according to sources from the police department. The teenager was pursued by the mob until they caught up with him, ultimately stabbing him in the lower back in front of 251 W. 42nd Street at approximately 5:30 p.m., as confirmed by both sources and law enforcement officials.
Witness Bell Mohamed, a Times Square worker, recounted the harrowing scene, stating, “I saw someone running… and there was blood coming from his back, coming from everywhere.” Mohamed expressed concern about the area near the crime scene, describing it as dangerous and remarking, “Some people are just crazy.”
Upon investigation, the police discovered a large blood-stained knife at the scene, as evidenced by photographs. Notably, this violent altercation unfolded on the same block where a group of migrants had previously attacked police officers last month. In connection with the stabbing incident, sources revealed that a 22-year-old man was arrested. Additionally, law enforcement authorities took six others into custody, including three migrant teenagers, according to police sources.
The victim was promptly transported to Bellevue Hospital by EMS and is reported to be in stable condition, as confirmed by the police. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that can arise in crowded public spaces, particularly in an area as bustling as Times Square.
