Teenager Shot Multiple Times on Violent Cul-de-sac near Lake Merritt

A 17-year-old boy was shot multiple times on Wednesday night in Oakland’s Lake Merritt area, a cul-de-sac that has been plagued by violence in recent months. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. outside in the 1400 block of Lakeshore Avenue. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital as of Thursday morning.

Upon receiving reports of gunfire, the police arrived at the scene but found no sign of the injured youth. It was later discovered that he had been driven to a hospital by unidentified individuals who promptly left the premises. The parked vehicle and a nearby apartment building were struck by the gunfire, although no other injuries were reported.

Authorities are currently investigating whether the teenager was inside the parked vehicle or standing outside when he was shot. The motive behind the incident remains unknown, and the police are also trying to determine why the victim, who resides in another part of Oakland, was present on the cul-de-sac.

No arrests have been made thus far, and the police have not released any information regarding potential suspects. The cul-de-sac, spanning from the 1200 block to the 1400 block of Lakeshore Avenue, has witnessed a string of violent incidents since May 2021. These include four homicides, comprising three shootings and a stabbing, as well as seven non-fatal shootings.
