Teen Arrested for Murder in Bronx Shooting Over Social Media Dispute

A 17-year-old boy, Tyrell Williams, has been arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the fatal shooting of Laquai Dash, a fellow Bronx teenager. The incident occurred following a social media dispute between their girlfriends, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).

Williams was apprehended at his residence in Wakefield around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, five days after the alleged shooting. The NYPD reports that Williams fired three shots at Dash, striking him in the neck and back. The disturbing video obtained by The Post captures the moment Williams takes aim at Dash as he flees across Cauldwell Avenue in Melrose.

Dash, a 17-year-old high school senior attending Legacy College High School in the South Bronx, was pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical Center. The violence that led to his tragic death was described by his family as a senseless escalation of a social media dispute between Williams’ and Dash’s girlfriends.

According to Dash’s grandmother, Vivian Coward, the altercation began when Williams’ girlfriend arrived at the high school to confront Dash’s girlfriend. Tragically, Williams accompanied his girlfriend as a form of protection. Neither Williams nor his girlfriend were students at Legacy College High School.

Coward explained that during the confrontation, Dash’s girlfriend was being assaulted by the other girl. In an attempt to defend his girlfriend, Dash intervened and put Williams in a chokehold. In response, Williams turned around and shot Dash in the neck, resulting in his untimely death.

This incident marks the second arrest for Williams, who was previously apprehended in 2022 for criminal possession of a weapon, as reported by the police.

Dash’s family remembers him as a “decent kid” and a “good grandson” who enjoyed spending time with his friends. He was known for his loyalty and would wake up early in the morning to encourage his friends to attend school with him. Dash had aspirations of pursuing a stable career in the hospitality industry and was eagerly anticipating a senior class trip to Spain at the end of March.

  1. This is such a tragic and heartbreaking incident. It reminds me of a similar incident that happened in my neighborhood a few years ago.

I remember hearing about a 16-year-old boy who was involved in a dispute with another teenager over a trivial matter. The argument escalated quickly, and before anyone could intervene, a gun was pulled out, resulting in the loss of a young life.

The incident sent shockwaves through our community. It was devastating to see how a simple disagreement could escalate to such a tragic
