Teachers Arrested in Three New Jersey Districts on Charges of Sexual Abuse and Child Pornography

Teachers in three New Jersey school districts were arrested on Thursday on charges related to sexual abuse and child pornography. In Jersey City, Fayez Yassa, a substitute teacher, was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault by contact and two counts of second-degree child endangerment. Yassa was terminated from his job, and it is currently unknown if he has legal representation.

In Woodland, Vincent Root, an elementary special education teacher, was accused of molesting seven boys at Chatsworth Elementary School. Root was arrested on charges of sexual assault and child endangerment. The investigation began in September when one of the students came forward. Root has been suspended from his position, and it is currently unknown if he has legal representation.

In Tenafly, the Democratic City Council president, Jeffrey D. Grossman, and his adult son, Steven Grossman, were arrested on charges of possession of child pornography. The mayor of Tenafly has called for Jeffrey Grossman’s resignation. Both men worked with school children in the Rochelle Park school district until their arrests. Investigators seized 32 electronic devices and found evidence of the men using the internet to view and download over a thousand files of child sexual abuse material. It is currently unknown if either man has legal representation.
