Teacher Arrested for Sexual Exploitation of Child and Unlawful Sexual Contact; More Victims Feared

A 26-year-old teacher, Christopher John Ballard, has been arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, unlawful sexual contact, and obscenity. The Parker Police Department, in collaboration with the Lakewood Police Department, executed a search warrant at Ballard’s residence on Alkire Street in Lakewood, following a report from a parent and owner of Journey Academy in Centennial.

Ballard, who began working as a teacher, or “guide,” with middle school-aged children at Journey Academy in May 2021, is also known to have visited Journey Life Center in southern Jefferson County. The parent who reported the abuse to Parker police on March 2 stated that they had heard from other parents about Ballard allegedly touching students, showing them pornography, and using forced nudity as a form of punishment. This information was confirmed by the parent with their child before contacting Ballard.

During subsequent conversations with the parent, Ballard admitted to engaging in inappropriate behavior with multiple students. He described forcing students to undress, sexually abusing them, showing them pornographic images, and even coercing them into recording child pornography. Two additional victims were identified during the initial stages of the investigation, leading authorities to believe that there may be more victims yet to come forward.

Parker Detective Bev Wilson can be reached at 303-805-6561, and Douglas County Sheriff’s Detective Randy Allen can be contacted at 303-784-7802 for anyone who believes their child may have been a victim or possesses additional information.
