Tampa Man Arrested and Charged with First-Degree Murder After Grindr Encounter

Lazaro Basilio Martinez Rojas, a 25-year-old man from Tampa, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Robert O’Connor. The incident occurred after the two men met on the dating app Grindr and engaged in sexual activity at O’Connor’s residence on November 7.

According to reports, surveillance video captured Martinez Rojas allegedly strangling O’Connor and subsequently standing on his throat. The video also purportedly shows Martinez Rojas mutilating the victim’s body using a large kitchen knife. O’Connor’s coworkers discovered his body wrapped in a blanket in one of the bedrooms four days later.

Following the discovery, Martinez Rojas was found hiding underneath a living room couch and was subsequently apprehended by authorities. He is currently requesting bond, but prosecutors argue that he poses a danger to the community and should remain in custody until his trial.
