A suspect from South Florida has been taken into custody after leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Indian River County. The chase began on Wednesday afternoon after the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received a tip about a suspect wanted for allegedly stabbing a doctor in a nearby area.
The sheriff’s office shared a nearly two-minute video of the intense chase on social media. The video shows the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Nicholas Purchego, swerving in and out of lanes in a white vehicle. Deputies quickly caught up with Purchego thanks to their real-time crime center.
The chase reached speeds of over 120 miles per hour, with an aerial view provided by a helicopter. Deputies managed to spike Purchego’s tires on Interstate 95, and he was eventually surrounded and apprehended after exiting his vehicle and attempting to flee on foot.
Purchego now faces a long list of charges, including attempted murder, according to the video released by the sheriff’s office. No injuries were reported during the chase.
