Suspect Arrested in Shooting Death of Woman in Fremont

FREMONT — Fremont police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the shooting death of an unidentified woman on Saturday night. Krishan Sharma, a 38-year-old resident of Hayward, was arrested on Tuesday after a brief pursuit by officers in a patrol vehicle, according to a statement from the Fremont Police Department. He is now facing charges of murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Authorities responded to a call at approximately 8:25 p.m. on Saturday, arriving at the intersection of Lake Arrowhead Avenue and Alvarado Road. There, they discovered the woman with a fatal gunshot wound. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed by the authorities.

Detectives swiftly identified Sharma as a suspect through a combination of video surveillance, witness interviews, and analysis of physical evidence at the crime scene. It was revealed that Sharma and the victim were involved in a relationship.

Sharma had been released on bail in a separate case where he is suspected of attempted murder and assault with a semi-automatic weapon. Details regarding that case have not been released by the authorities.

Currently held at Santa Rita Jail, Sharma is being held without bail. The Fremont Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the two Saturday killings to come forward. They can contact the police at 510-790-6900 or submit an anonymous tip by texting ‘TipFremontPD’ followed by a short message to 888-777. Fremont has experienced a total of four homicides in 2024, including the two incidents that occurred on Saturday. The second incident took place at approximately 1:25 p.m. at the intersection of Blaisdell Way and Nichols Avenue in the Niles District. A man was found with multiple gunshot wounds and despite rescue efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed.

In an open letter posted on Sunday, Fremont Police Chief Sean Washington addressed the recent acts of violence in the city, including the tragic kidnapping and death of 3-year-old Ellie Lorenzo, who was found deceased in San Jose on July 13. Chief Washington condemned these acts as “senseless” and called for the community’s cooperation in providing information to aid in the investigations.
