Suspect Allegedly Wielding Knife Shot by Sunnyvale Police

A male suspect was shot by Sunnyvale police on Saturday at approximately 5:30 p.m. The incident occurred at a mobile home park on Vienna Drive, situated off Tasman Drive and the Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California.

According to a press release issued by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DSPS), officers were dispatched to the scene in response to a call. Upon arrival, they encountered an adult male in the roadway, brandishing a knife. The officers immediately instructed the suspect to remain where he was and to place the weapon on the ground.

Despite repeated commands from the officers, the suspect disregarded their instructions and advanced towards one of the officers. In response, the officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Swiftly, the police initiated life-saving measures and the wounded man was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the medical facility.

The Sunnyvale police have refrained from providing further comments on the case. The DSPS has stated that an ongoing joint investigation is being conducted by their department and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. Detective G.
