Newly released surveillance footage has revealed several “persons of interest” in connection to the deadly mass shooting that occurred in Ybor City. The incident, which took place on 7th Avenue in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 29, resulted in two fatalities and 16 injuries. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a fight between two groups that escalated into gunfire. Tyrell Phillips, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder, but investigators are actively searching for additional shooters.
The Tampa Police Department has not disclosed any potential connection between the “persons of interest” and the case. They are now seeking the community’s assistance in identifying and locating these individuals. Surviving victim Kyla Ryker, who was recently discharged from the hospital, expressed her surprise at the lack of progress in the investigation. Ryker’s mother, Rachel Sims, also voiced her concerns, questioning why the high-quality surveillance cameras in Ybor City have not yielded more substantial leads. Both Ryker and Sims emphasized their desire for justice for the victims.
Kyla Ryker shared the lasting impact the shooting has had on her life, stating that she now experiences fear in crowded places and is easily startled by loud noises. The Tampa Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the “persons of interest” or the shooting to submit tips through fbi.gov/tampashooting or crimestopperstb.com.
