In a shocking incident late Thursday, a 16-year-old girl was caught in the crossfire of a violent dispute that unfolded on a street corner in Brooklyn. The skirmish occurred at the intersection of Linden Boulevard and Utica Avenue in the East Flatbush neighborhood, shortly before midnight. Authorities believe the unfortunate teenager was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
According to the police, a group of men were engaged in a heated altercation when one of them brandished a firearm. The intended target, a 29-year-old male, was shot in the torso and leg. Sadly, the perpetrator’s aim was not true, and an apparent stray bullet struck the young girl in the buttocks. Both victims were quickly rushed to separate hospitals, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
The incident underscores the prevalence of gun violence that has unfortunately become all too common within our communities. Law enforcement officials are diligently working to ascertain the full details of the altercation and bring those responsible to justice. However, no arrests have been made as of yet.
In an unsettling turn of events, two other shootings were reported in separate incidents overnight. A 38-year-old man was shot in the neck on Lafayette Avenue near Soundview Avenue in the Clason Point neighborhood of the Bronx at around 10:40 p.m. Thursday. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, and he was admitted to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition. Similarly, an 18-year-old man was struck in the leg by gunfire on the grounds of NYCHA’s Polo Grounds Towers, located on Frederick Douglass Boulevard near West 155th Street in Harlem, around 12:30 a.m. Friday. He was immediately transported to Harlem Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are currently seeking the male suspect who fled the scene in a sedan.
It is disheartening to witness these incidents of senseless violence, which continue to plague our communities. The local authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, as they relentlessly pursue those responsible for these heinous acts.
