A St. Petersburg man, Travis DuPont, rescued a driver trapped inside a burning car after a crash in Seminole. DuPont, who was on his way home from work around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, noticed a flash in the sky and realized that a driver had crashed into Second Time Around Consignment on Seminole Boulevard. He immediately ran to the driver’s window and found the man unconscious. DuPont shook him and yelled at him to wake up.
Stephanie Turow, who was awakened by the loud crash, recorded the incident on video.
DuPont urged the driver to move his legs and, upon noticing the flames, quickly realized the urgency of the situation. He picked up the driver and carried him to safety just moments before the car burst into flames and exploded.
The driver, a 28-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and believes the driver was impaired, with charges likely to be filed.
