Four East Bay men have been apprehended following a smash-and-grab robbery at Don Roberto Jewelers, located inside the West Valley Mall in Tracy, California. The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 2:25 p.m. when eight masked suspects stormed the store, wielding hammers to shatter the glass displays. The robbers swiftly made off with an estimated $150,000 worth of assorted jewelry before fleeing the scene.
Four of the suspects managed to escape in a stolen SUV, but their getaway was short-lived. The stolen vehicle crashed near a mall entrance off Corral Hollow Road, leading the perpetrators to abandon the car and attempt to flee on foot. However, with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies, authorities were able to apprehend all four suspects. During the arrest, one of the individuals was bitten by a K-9 unit from the San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office.
Sergeant Mike Richards confirmed that some of the stolen jewelry was recovered at the scene. The SUV used in the robbery had been reported stolen earlier this month in Washington state, according to authorities. Meanwhile, the remaining four suspects managed to escape in another vehicle and are still being sought by law enforcement.
The four arrested individuals, identified as a 19-year-old man from Richmond, a 21-year-old man from Antioch, a 21-year-old man from Bay Point, and a 23-year-old man from Hayward, have been booked at the San Joaquin County Jail. They face charges of organized retail theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, and robbery by force or fear.
The police investigation into the incident is ongoing. Detective Kenneth Steele and Detective Lissette Ortiz are leading the investigation and can be contacted for any information related to the case. Additionally, anonymous tips can be provided to Tracy Crime Stoppers by calling or texting “TIPTPD” and a message to CRIMES (274637).

“Crime is a shortcut to wealth, but it’s a dead end road to happiness.”
This quote resonates with the post because it highlights the consequences of engaging in criminal activities. The individuals involved in the smash-and-grab robbery may have thought they were taking a shortcut to wealth, but ultimately, they will face legal consequences and their actions will likely lead to unhappiness in the long run. It serves as a reminder that pursuing illegal means to achieve material gain is not a sustainable or fulfilling path
