Slow-Speed Forklift Chase Ends in Arrest in Sacramento, California

In a bizarre incident in Sacramento, a slow-speed chase involving a forklift ended with the arrest of a 47-year-old man. The pursuit began on Fair Oaks Boulevard near Howe Avenue just before midnight. Police attempted to pull over the forklift driver, who was reportedly driving with the lights off. Ignoring the officer’s commands, the driver continued at a leisurely pace of approximately ten miles per hour, leading to what authorities called a “pursuit.”

Residents in the River Park neighborhood were taken aback by the unusual scene, with many listening in on police scanner apps. The chase continued for several miles, with six patrol cars in pursuit. The forklift driver even rammed through a chain-link fence at Glen Hall Park and proceeded onto the bike path along the American River.

The chase finally came to an end near Howe Avenue, approximately two miles from where it began. The suspect, identified as Wayne Matherne, was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest. The incident left neighbors bewildered, describing it as a surreal moment in Sacramento.
