A shooting in Holyoke, Massachusetts, which resulted from a street altercation, has left at least three people injured, including a pregnant woman on a bus. The confrontation unfolded near the intersection of Sargeant and Maple streets. Authorities received a 911 call about the incident shortly before 1 p.m., with further notifications from ShotSpotter.
The pregnant woman was critically injured and was rushed to a hospital where her baby was delivered but tragically did not survive. Among the victims, another individual was aboard a passing bus when struck by the gunfire.
State police spokesperson Dave Procopio mentioned that the incident resulted from “an altercation among people on the street.” The public is not believed to be under any ongoing threat, according to state police. Assistance has been provided by state police, including patrols, K-9 teams, and investigative units, to support the Holyoke Police in their ongoing investigation and search for suspects.
Details about the condition of the other victims and any potential arrests remain undisclosed. The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office directing the investigation has yet to provide additional comments.
