In a startling turn of events, a jaw-dropping surveillance video has been released, shedding light on a violent encounter between a transgender man and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is now launching an investigation into the incident after Emmett Brock, a 23-year-old man, and his attorney made the chilling footage public.
According to Brock, the horrifying ordeal began when he witnessed the deputy treating a woman on the side of the road with an inexplicable display of aggression. Enraged, without much thought, Brock defiantly flipped the officer the middle finger, not expecting the harrowing consequences that were about to unfold.
To his astonishment, the very same deputy jumped into his patrol car and started tailing him relentlessly. Determined to find out if he was being pursued, Brock cleverly steered away from his intended route, while keeping a close eye on the deputy in his rearview mirror. Dialing 911 for assistance, Brock was advised to continue to his destination unless the patrol car exhibited flashing lights or sirens—a clear indication that he should pull over.
Abruptly pulling into a 7-Eleven parking lot, Brock watched in trepidation as the deputy’s vehicle ominously came to a halt behind him, the flashing lights now piercing the darkness. As Brock stepped out of his car, the surveillance footage chillingly captures the deputy lunging at him, forcibly and brutally throwing him to the ground. The ambush was swift, leaving Brock disoriented and bewildered.
Astonished and in pain, Brock recounted the vicious beating he endured at the hands of the deputy. He claims that the officer relentlessly pummeled him with closed fists, delivering blows to his head, causing his ears to bleed and his face to swell grotesquely. The footage captured the deputy’s unrelenting attack as he pinned Brock down, each hit landing with a sickening thud.
To Brock’s shock, when the officers finally arrested him, they provided no reason for their initial approach. Identified as Joseph Benza, the officer allegedly tried to regain control of the situation when Brock attempted to walk away from the traffic stop. Benza’s attorney, Tom Yu, emphasized the inherent danger of traffic stops, justifying his client’s actions as an attempt to prevent Brock from evading the scene.
The horrors didn’t end there for Brock. Upon arriving at the local jail, he was subjected to invasive and distressing interrogations regarding his gender identity and genitalia, leaving him feeling violated and humiliated. Adding insult to injury, he was forced to expose himself to a female officer in a restroom, an act that left him traumatized. To exacerbate the situation, Brock was then placed in a women’s holding cell—an unmistakable disregard for his true identity.
Facing two misdemeanor charges, including battery against a police officer and resisting arrest, Brock vehemently pleads his innocence. Determined to seek justice, he has decided to take legal action against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department—the very institution entrusted with upholding the law.
As the investigation unfolds, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released a statement, acknowledging the seriousness of the use of force incidents. While refraining from further comments due to pending litigation, they vow to thoroughly examine the information and allegations put forth by Brock and his attorney.
The harrowing footage captured on surveillance cameras has sparked outrage and public outcry, reigniting the conversation surrounding police conduct and protection of transgender individuals. The shocking nature of the incident begs the question: can we trust those who are meant to preserve our safety?
In the heart of Los Angeles County, the search for truth and justice begins.
